![]() ![]() Personally I regret going with the Pi as an HTPC. Either that or build a cheap HTPC and put Windows on it and add his laptop share as a networtked drive. For the $80 (after components) you should look at little set top boxes that can play media off of shares and then call it a day. IMO his needs arent enough to justify all the work the Pi would require. BLUESTACKS BLUETOOTH REDDIT ANDROIDMake sure you have a good wireless router (maybe at least 'n' or better, same goes for the laptop), and then get an Android app called LocalCast with that you can actually tell the Chromecast to play stuff off your share. How are you planning to wirelessly stream them? A share as well? I feel like a Chromecast would be a better option if he doesn’t want anything complex. I experienced lots of buffering so now I just drag out my super long Ethernet cable when I have to play anything over 720. Wireless through the Pi's USB ports are SLOW. I then use the Pi and Kodi to pull them down off the share. I have a NAS which is basically a computer with a couple harddrives in them, and I have them on one big share. ![]() ![]() My setup is slightly different than yours but the concept is the same. I have a Pi2 that I just bought for this exact purpose. On a side note, lots of TVs have SD card or USB stick slots.Ĭhromecast has like 2GB of flash apparently so > I'm mainly asking if there's an easy native app like the soundcloud 'casting app' that hosts it independently on the Chromecast, only using the computer as a remote VLC is very optimized for a lot of things and has been used for casting streams for a very long time, so honestly download and try it, you should be golden. BLUESTACKS BLUETOOTH REDDIT UPDATEI know the chromecast has a buffer of at least 256MB (512MB RAM is what I see so there you go) so it has to do with how the sender is configured to transmit, or there's a partially catastrophic failure with the hardware, or you need to update your chromecast or something. The worst performance is usually around 2.4Mb/s, and considering the audio is 128kb/s or so it's definitely just a buffering issue. router interfacing is bad, but if u get it right even the shittiest routers can carry 100Mb/s over the air. That might be it, but definitely try VLC. ![]()
